Affilation: Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Cuba

Born in Havana, CUBA (15.10.66). Cuban nationality and resident of 110 No. 539, Playa, C. Habana. Tel.: 29-0237. Presently she is a worker of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), Ave. 31 entre 158 y 190. P. O. Box 6162, Cubanacán, Havana, Cuba. Her secondary studies were carried out at the Havana's Vocational High School, where she graduated with excellent performance in 1983 and completed her university medical studies at the Havana's Higher Institute of Medical Sciences, from which she graduated in 1986 receiving the Golden Diploma (5/5). Then, in 1993, she obtained from the same Institute her medical specialization in Clinical Biochemistry with a high performance and after a 5-year fellowship at the "Mario Negri" Pharmacological Research Institute in Milano, Italy; she received her PhD in Pharmacological Sciences from this Institute, in 1999. She is senior researcher from 2013 and Senior Professor from 2014. She speaks fluently Italian and fair English, in addition to Spanish, her mother tongue. Her research work at CIGB was in the cloning and expression of the tumoral necrosis factor (TNF) ain E. coli  and interleukin 2 (IL-2) in yeast, in the production of monoclonal antibodies to the bsubunit of the IL-2 receptor and in the immunochemical detection and quantification of IL-2 by immunoenzymatic assay (ELISA). At the "Mario Negri" Institute she worked with Prof. Alberto Mantovani in different aspects related to the interleukin 1 (IL-1) system and its receptor, the action of efectors such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and drugs such as interferon (IFN) gamma and dexametasone on this system and its relationship with the chymokins system and its receptor, publishing several papers most of them included in her Pharmacological Sciences Ph.D. thesis "Effect of bacterial LPS interleukin 1 receptor". Her professional experience is related to the field of Molecular Genetics, Immunology and Experimental Pharmacology and include techniques such as gene cloning, mutagenesis and expression in bacteria and yeast, Northern, Southern and Western blots, monoclonal antibodies production and their use for immunochemical detection of proteins, as well as the production of "knock-out" mice.  She is Head of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and cerebral ischemia projects from 2001 and 2006 respectively. Currently, she is Head of Cellular Biology group in her institute.

She is first author of 2 Patents granted in US, Canada, European Union, Southafrica and China. She  has more than 50 publications, mainly as first author, in peer-reviewed national and international scientific journals with a broad circulation and impact, including: Applied Biotechnology, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Cytokine, Journal of Immunology and others, many of them making part of her Ph.D. thesis. She has presented several papers in national and international scientific congresses in Cuba and Italy, Germany, Canada, Chile, Brazil, etc such as, the CIGB Biotechnology Congress, Havana (1992) and Congress of the Group for Cooperation in Immunology, in Viterbo (1995); Inflammation, in Brescia (1997)  and Cytokines in Inflammation, in L'Aquila (1998). She is a member of the Cuban Society for Biotechnology Applied to Health and the "Gruppo di Cooperazione in Immunologia" (Italy), senior member of the Cuban Society of Immunology, Cuban, MS Society executive board senior and member of the Cuban Society of Pharmacology. She has received some National Awards of the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
