Dr. Ganesh joined Biotechnology Planetary Protection Group at Caltech-Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering Section. Here his research project includes monitoring microbial population diversity and omics (Genomics, proteomics and metabolomics) characterization to elucidate the survival and pathogenesis associated under the influence of microgravity. He received his Bachelor and Master Degree in Biochemistry from Sourashtra College, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, India. He received his Ph.D in Microbiology from Madurai Kamaraj University. His thesis work was on basic microbiology with genomic and proteomic approach which lead to understand the bacterial physiology and silver nanoparticles biosynthesis. Then he joined as a postdoctoral fellow in The Hebrew Univesity of Jerusalem, Isreal. His research focused in the field of microbial cell biology, microbial development, cell to cell communication (via bacterial nanotubes), multicellularity and colony formation.
Research Interest: Monitoring microbial population diversity at International Space Station, planetary protection, astrobiology, bacterial cell biology, basic and advanced microscopy techniques, cell-cell communication, subcellular protein localization in bacteria, cellular development (sporulation), Metal-microbes interaction, bioremediation and environmental metagenomics, Whole genomics sequencing, proteomic and metabolomics, Microbial mediated silver nanomaterial synthesis and characterization, Bacterial genetics, Bioinformatics.
