I focus my study on the mechanism of choroidal and retinal neovascularization, in particularly, the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and other growth factors and their signaling in pathological angiogenesis. Aberrant neovascularization of the retina and choroid is associated with diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). Full elucidiation of the etioloy of these diseases is paramount for the development of novel therapeutic methods to combat these diseases.
