My name is Dr. OLA MOHAMED ABDELHAMID EID. After obtaining Master Degree in Ophthalmology from Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, I joined Human Cytogenetics Department, Human Genetics and Genome Research Division, National Research Centre (N.R.C) in 2003. I obtained the Ph.D. Degree In Laser Applications in Ophthalmology (Field of Human Cytogenetics), National Institute of Laser Enhanced Sciences, Cairo University, October 2008.
I was awarded the best Doctorate thesis prize in the field of Medical Sciences and Its Applications at National Research Centre in 2008. In my thesis, Cyclin D1 gene amplification has been revealed for the first time in proliferating haemangiomas. I works now as an Assistant (Associate) Research Professor at Human Cytogenetics Department, Human Genetics and Genome Research Division, National Research Centre. I mastered different Cytogenetic techniques, including; The Conventional Cytogenetic Techniques, Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) Technique. I established the Tissue Culture Technique including Amniotic Fluid Culture in my department. In January 2015, I completed a training fellowship in the use of MLPA at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University for six months period under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Harry Ostrer, where I mastered the technique using several kits (probemixes). I supervised two Ph.D. Degree Thesis (one of them is going) and three Master Degree Thesis. I was actively participated in different projects funded by the NRC. The projects covered different fields of research in genetics and medicine. One of these projects is an important mega project entitled “Novel Biomarkers as Promising Diagnostic Options for Solid Malignant Tumors” (2010-2013) funded by the NRC, it was one large project with collaboration of more than 6 departments at the NRC, Faculty of Medicine and National Cancer Institute. Also, I was actively participating in: “Early Non Invasive Prenatal Diagnosis and Pregnancy Care for Prevention of Mental Retardation” and “The Use of Recent Advances in Molecular Cytogenetics for Prevention of Mental Retardation” projects (2010-2013) funded by the NRC. Also, I was actively participating in: “The Value Of Array-CGH For Detection Of Genome Wide Copy Number Changes For Genetic Evaluation Of Mental Retardation”, “Effects Of Oxidative Stress On Some Biomarkers And Genetic Assessments In Diabetes Mellitus Of Both Types And Role Of Vitamin E” projects (2013-2016) funded by the NRC. Now, I am actively participating in: “Epigenetic and Genetic approaches towards the discovery of New Biomarkers in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. (Co-Principal Investigator)”, “New Insight Into Genetic and Epigenetics Evaluation of SHOX Gene in Idiopathic Short Stature towards Better Understanding of the Disease.”, “Copy Number Variance and Gene Expression in diagnosis of genetic causes of Intellectual Disability.”, “Cytogenetic studies and Copy number variation analysis (CNV) in Disorders of Sex Development (DSD) using Multiplex Ligation Dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA) technique.”, “Impact of cytogenetic aberrations on the expression pattern of MicroRNAs in Egyptian Patients with Multiple Myeloma.” And “Exosomal microRNA in liver and breast cancers.” funded by the NRC. I have participated in many international conferences and workshop about human genetics, have organized and taught in many workshop held by the human cytogenetics department and actively participating in public services done by our department. I am member of the national society of the human genetics.
Human cytogenetics, genetics
