Professor Miao Sun, PhD, got her medical genetics training and experiences at Peking Union Medical College, Johns Hopkins University and Emory University. She is Asso. Director, Institute for Fetology, at First Hospital of Soochow University. She is awarded as “Special-invited Professor” (Top levels of professors) at Jiangsu Province, China. Her significant contributions in the fields include identification of disease genes for the inherited familial diseases, including a novel brachydactyly-syndactyly syndrome known as Syndactyly Type V, triphalangeal thumb–polysyndactyly syndrome, congenital generalized hypertrichosis terminalis with or without gingival hyperplasia, X-linked congenital hypertrichosis syndrome, Marie Unna hereditary hypotrichosis, and familial acne inversa. Those research findings have been published on international journals, including American Journal of Human Genetics, Human Molecular Genetics, Journal of Medical Genetics, Nature Genetics, and Science, etc. Her work on congenital generalized hypertrichosis was published as a feature article on Am J Hum Genet and reported as a special topics in Science. She also serves as a principle investigator for multiple important national research grants and projects, including NSFC, 973, and 863 research projects. Her main research interest aims at the molecular mechanisms underlie birth defects, including monogenic genetic diseases and fetal origin disorders.
1. Genetics and epigenetics mechanisms underlying birth defects.
2. Molecular mechanisms for Fetal origin health & diseases.
