Kenji Suzuki, Ph.D. (by Published Work; Nagoya University) worked in Research and Development Center, Hitachi Medical Corporation, Japan, from 1993 to 1997. From 1997 to 2001, he worked in Faculty of Information Science and Technology, Aichi Prefectural University, Japan, as a faculty member. In 2001, he joined Department of Radiology, the University of Chicago, as Research Associate, and then, promoted to Assistant Professor of Radiology, Graduate Program in Medical Physics, and Cancer Research Center in 2006. Since 2014, he has been Associate Professor in Department of Electric and Computer Engineering and Medical Imaging Research Center, Illinois Institute of Technology. His research interests include computational (artificial) intelligence and machine learning in biomedical imaging, computer-aided detection and diagnosis, and biomedical image processing and analysis. Especially, his image-based machine learning inspired by the human visual system, which has a close relation with particular neural networks that people now call deep learning, and its applications to computer-aided diagnosis and medical imaging are his main contributions to the fields. He published more than 300 papers including 109 peer-reviewed journal papers such as IEEE TPAMI (IF: 6.1), IEEE TMI (IF: 3.8), IEEE TIP (IF: 3.7), Radiology (IF: 6.8), and EJNMMI (IF: 5.5). His papers were cited more than 7,000 times by other researchers. He has an h-index of 38. He is inventor on 30 patents (including 12 granted patents), which were licensed to several companies and commercialized. He published 10 books and 22 book chapters, and edited 12 journal special issues. He was awarded 25 grants as the P.I. including NIH R01 and ACS grants. He served as a grant reviewer for funding agencies, including National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC). He served as the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor, or Guest Editor of a number of leading international journals, including Pattern Recognition (IF: 3.4), Medical Physics (IF: 2.5), Neurocomputing (IF: 2.4), and Academic Radiology (IF: 2.0). He served as a referee for 80 international journals, an organizer of 25 international conferences, and a program committee member of 143 international conferences, including IEEE EMBC, IEEE SMC, and ICPR. He gave 85 invited talks and keynote speeches at international conferences and universities. His research was covered in 39 articles in newspapers, magazines and journals by press and media. He supervised more than 60 graduate/undergraduate students and 7 postdocs/computer scientists, and accepted 14 visiting professors in his laboratory from foreign countries, supported by a grant/scholarship from their governments/institutions. He received 25 awards for his research and teaching, including Paul Hodges Award, 3 RSNA Certificate of Merit Awards, IEEE Outstanding Member Award, Cancer Research Foundation Young Investigator Award, Kurt Rossmann Award for Excellence in Teaching from University of Chicago, IEICE 2014 Best Journal Paper Award, and EANM Most Cited Journal Paper Award 2016.
